ETP – Effluent Treatment Plant

ETP (Effluent Treatment Plant) solutions for garments, textile, and industrial wastewater treatment in Bangladesh. Improve water quality, ensure environmental compliance, and reduce pollution with expert treatment systems from Water Treatment BD

Best ETP - Effluent Treatment Plant in Bangladesh

ETP – Effluent Treatment Plant in Bangladesh is an essential industrial solution for treating contaminated wastewater generated from textile, dyeing, garment, pharmaceutical, and manufacturing industries. At Water Treatment BD, we design, supply, install, and maintain advanced ETP systems that ensure compliance with environmental regulations and sustainable water management.

What are Effluent Treatment Plants

An effluent treatment plant (ETP) is a wastewater treatment process (WWTP) that treats wastewater. It’s mostly used in industries like pharmaceuticals, textiles, and chemicals where there’s a risk of extreme water contamination. Effluent Treatment Plants are important in the treatment of both industrial wastewater and domestic sewage. Organic matter, inorganic matter, heavy metals, oil and grease, suspended particles, and other contaminants are all treated in an ETP plant’s wastewater treatment process. Wastewater treatment plants are classified into chemical treatment, biological treatment, a combination of chemical and biological treatment, and thermal treatment.

Effluent Treatment Plant in Bangladesh is widely used to remove harmful chemicals, organic waste, and toxic substances from industrial discharge before releasing water into the environment. Industries are legally required to treat wastewater according to environmental standards set by regulatory authorities.

We provide complete ETP solutions including:

  • Design and engineering
  • Installation and commissioning
  • Operation and maintenance
  • Chemical dosing systems
  • Automation and monitoring systems

ETP - Effluent Treatment Plant in Bangladesh for Textile & Garment Industry

Effluent Treatment Plant in Bangladesh is especially important for textile and garment factories, which produce high volumes of polluted wastewater. Our systems are customized for:

  • Dyeing wastewater treatment
  • Chemical oxygen demand (COD) reduction
  • Color removal processes
  • Sludge management

This ensures industries maintain compliance with environmental standards such as those guided by the Department of Environment (DOE), Bangladesh.

How an ETP - Effluent Treatment Plant Works in Bangladesh

An Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) is an industrial wastewater treatment process designed to clean industrial wastewater and recycle it for reuse or safely discharge it into the environment. Industries like textiles, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and tanneries produce wastewater (effluent) heavily contaminated with toxic chemicals, organic matter, and heavy metals that cannot be processed by standard sewage systems.

The treatment process typically follows four distinct stages: Preliminary, Primary, Secondary (Biological), and Tertiary (Advanced) treatment.

1. Preliminary Treatment Stage

The main goal here is to remove large, floating physical solids and balance the incoming wastewater flow to protect downstream equipment.

  • Screening: Wastewater passes through bar screens to trap large debris like plastic, rags, wood, and solid trash that could clog pumps and pipes.

  • Grit Removal: The water flows into a grit chamber where smaller, heavy inorganic solids (like sand, gravel, and silt) settle to the bottom.

  • Equalization: Effluent from different factory processes varies in temperature, pH, and flow rate throughout the day. The water is collected in a large Equalization Tank where it is mixed continuously. This homogenizes the wastewater, ensuring a steady, uniform flow and concentration for the subsequent treatment steps.

2. Primary Treatment Stage

This stage focuses on removing suspended organic solids, oils, fats, and grease using physical and chemical methods.

  • Neutralization (pH Correction): Industrial effluent is often highly acidic or alkaline. Chemicals (like lime or sulfuric acid) are added to adjust the pH level to a neutral range (around 6.5 to 8.5), which is crucial for the survival of microorganisms in the next stage.

  • Coagulation & Flocculation: Chemical coagulants (like alum or ferric chloride) are mixed into the water. These chemicals neutralize the electrical charges of fine, suspended particles, causing them to clump together into larger particles called “flocs.” Polyelectrolytes (flocculants) are then added to help these flocs bond into heavier masses.

  • Primary Clarification (Sedimentation): The water moves to a primary clarifier where the heavy flocs settle to the bottom as primary sludge, while lighter materials like oil and grease float to the top and are skimmed off.

3. Secondary or Biological Treatment Stage

This is the heart of the ETP, where dissolved organic matter (measured by Biochemical Oxygen Demand, or BOD) is broken down using living microorganisms.

Effluent Treatment Plant Process iMAGE
  • Aeration: The wastewater enters an Aeration Tank where massive amounts of air are pumped into the water. This oxygen fuels the growth of aerobic bacteria and microbes, which aggressively consume the dissolved organic pollutants (sugars, proteins, biodegradable chemicals) as food.

  • Secondary Clarification: The mixture of water and microbes (known as activated sludge) flows into a secondary clarifier. The microbes settle to the bottom as a sludge blanket.

  • Sludge Recycling: A portion of this settled sludge (Return Activated Sludge) is pumped back into the aeration tank to maintain a high population of hungry bacteria. The excess sludge is sent away for disposal.

4. Tertiary or Advanced Treatment Stage

This final polishing stage removes any remaining suspended solids, trace pathogens, dissolved solids, or toxic ions before the water is reused or discharged.

  • Filtration: The water is passed through Multi-Media Filters (sand and gravel) to catch residual suspended particles, followed by Activated Carbon Filters to absorb remaining odors, colors, and trace organic compounds.

  • Disinfection: To kill harmful pathogens, bacteria, and viruses, the water is treated with disinfectants like chlorine, ozone, or Ultraviolet (UV) light.

  • Advanced Technologies (Optional): For industries aiming for Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) or high-grade recycling, advanced processes like Reverse Osmosis (RO), Ultrafiltration, or Evaporators are used to strip away dissolved salts and minerals.

Summary of the Process Flow

Raw Effluent ──> Screening & Grit ──> Equalization Tank ──> Coagulation/Flocculation

Final Clean Water <── Disinfection <── Filtration <── Aeration & Clarifier

The byproduct of this entire journey is sludge. The accumulated sludge from the primary and secondary clarifiers is sent to a sludge holding tank, thickened, and dewatered using filter presses or centrifuges. The dry sludge cakes are then safely disposed of in secure landfills or incinerated, depending on local environmental regulations.
